When you go with MobilSat Cellular, you get the best possible equipment for a mobile or remote environment. MobilSat even preconfigures your router before shipping it out, making the process of getting connected simpler than ever before. In just a few steps you can connect your Peplink router and your external antenna, giving you access to the best of internet from the road.

Setting up the Peplink Router Without the External Antenna

Take the Peplink router out of the box, but be careful to keep the box in good condition. If you need to return the device, you NEED the original packaging! Set the box aside for now as you go through the rest of the steps.

You should have the Peplink device, the power supply, a GPS antenna, a Wi-Fi antenna, and two 4G LTE antennas. Make sure all your parts are included and you are ready to begin. Now, connect the Wi-Fi antenna to the Wi-Fi port, located on the bottom right of the back of the unit. Next, connect the two 4G LTE antennas to the two cellular ports. These are the ports at the top of the back of your router. Finally, point the three antennas up.

Your router is almost ready! The final step is to plug the power cable into your device, then into the power outlet on your vehicle. The device should automatically start up, and within a few minutes will be ready to connect.

Mounting the External Antenna

The external antenna contains a base unit, four cables, a base bolt, and a custom mounting bracket. Choose your roof mounting location by picking a spot that is flat, and preferably at least 9 inches away from any other antennas.

The custom-made external antenna mounting bracket

Screw  the base of the mounting bracket to the mounting location. Reinforce the base of the mounting bracket with silicone, as seen in the completed installations below. Once the bracket is secured and the base is waterproofed, lower the external antenna base bolt into the hole at the top of the bracket. Next, use the nut to secure the external antenna base bolt to the mounting bracket.

Keep the wires organized using zip ties, guiding them around your vehicle to the entry location.

Note that MobilSat Cellular is not liable for any vehicle damage that may occur from self-installation. If you are not confident in your ability to install the external antenna, consult a local handyman to complete the external antenna installation.

Setting up the Peplink Router with the External Antenna

By this point, you should already have the external antenna installed using the instructions in the previous section. Take the cables from the external antenna and identify the two cables labeled ‘LTE’, the one labeled ‘Wi-Fi’, and the one labeled ‘GPS’. Note that you will NOT connect the cable labeled ‘Wi-Fi’ to the router. Use the diagram below to match the wires from the external antenna to the ports on the cellular router. Steps are also provided below the graphic for clarification.

Three external antenna wires and the Wi-Fi antenna that came with the Peplink router will be plugged into the Peplink router.
  1. Connect one of the two wires labeled ‘LTE’ to the cellular main port, and the other to the cellular diversity/aux port.
  2. Plug the wire labeled ‘GPS’ to the GPS port on the router.
  3. Attach the Wi-Fi antenna, which was in the same package as the cellular router, to the Wi-Fi port on the cellular router. Point the antenna up.

Getting Connected Through Wi-Fi or Ethernet

If you are connecting for the first time through Wi-Fi, open “network connections” on your device after making sure the router is plugged in and powered on. Find the name of your Wi-Fi network (which you set up when you ordered the service and equipment) and click on it. If you want the device you are logging in with to always connect, be sure to check the box that says “connect automatically”. Enter your Wi-Fi password, and you’re all set!

To connect via ethernet, simply plug an ethernet port into your router and into your device. As long as your router is plugged in and set up correctly, you will be connected automatically.
